The babies have fledged! You can see in the photo that Mama is getting ready for her next brood. Cardinals have several broods a year!

If you make these full size cupcakes (18 each, and not 24) and let them sit overnight before you peel them, they are fine. But you can't do the "dunk the cupcake" method of frosting them, or you'll find yourself with a cupcake bottom in your hand and a cupcake top in the bowl. Or maybe my frosting was too thick, I don't know. :) I used Izze all natural soda with great results!

If you were thinking this would make fun cupcakes, let me tell you two things: 1- it only makes 18, not 24 as usual for a box of cake mix, and 2- preliminary testing has the cupcake going to pieces when you peel the paper off like a dandelion gone to seed. I will try again tomorrow, in the interest of science, and let you know how it goes... :)

Seriously, people, nature is harsh! This robin's egg could have been damaged by a cowbird, a crow, or a bluejay. Raccoons, squirrels, and snakes are also predators but wouldn't peck holes like this one.
